Andrew Archibald Nominated for National Tourism Superstar 2015 Award
Wednesday, February 11, 2015
Aspire Recruitment sponsored this year’s successful Manchester Tourism Awards, held on Tuesday 2nd December at the National Football Museum. We now need your help as Andrew Archibald, Doorman at the Lowry Hotel and the winner of the Tourism Star of The Year Award, has been nominated for VisitEngland’s prestigious Tourism Superstar award, supported by the Daily Mirror.
A public vote - which opened on Saturday 31 January on the Daily Mirror website and closes on Saturday 28 February - will decide the winner of the award, with Andrew up against nine other tourism industry professionals from around the country who have all been filmed giving their reasons why they should win the award.
Tourism Superstar was launched three years ago as part of English Tourism Week (this year running 14-22 March) and recognises the dedication and passion of those working in the tourism industry. The accolade is awarded to an individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure visitors to England have an unforgettable experience.
A fantastic advocate for Manchester, Andrew joined The Lowry Hotel in December 2012 and is the first point of contact for all guests, including many of the hotel’s VIPs. Andrew was selected to compete for the award, for his ability to pre-empt guest requirements and show a genuine interest in their needs.
Andrew was awarded ‘Tourism Star of the Year’ at the Manchester Tourism Awards in December 2014, on the same night that The Lowry Hotel won ‘Best Large Hotel’. Andrew now has his heart set on the national award, saying: “I’m absolutely over the moon to have been given this opportunity. Manchester is having a fantastic time in the spotlight at the moment and working within the industry, you can see that tourism is really booming here. I want to make sure that everyone knows what our fantastic city has to offer and I hope people will vote for me.”
Nick Brooks-Sykes, director of tourism at Marketing Manchester, added: “Andrew fully deserves to be shortlisted for this award - his passion and enthusiasm for his job and city is something that all those working in the tourism industry in Greater Manchester should be aiming to emulate. I urge people to get behind Andrew and vote.”
David Curtis-Brignell, Chairman of English Tourism Week, commented: “The search for VisitEngland’s Tourism Superstar 2015 has unearthed some real unsung heroes of the industry, and we want as many people as possible to watch the film and witness first-hand the passion and dedication of the shortlisted candidates. Don’t miss the chance to find out more about each nominee and vote for your favourite! I wish all the candidates the very best of luck.”
Tourism Minister Helen Grant said: "Huge congratulations to the fantastic superstars shortlisted. Record numbers of tourists are visiting the UK so it’s brilliant to see people rewarded for going the extra mile to give a great welcome. I hope that showcasing the careers of these superstars will inspire others to seize opportunities in this fast growing industry.”
