Support Worker - Manchester
SEASONAL SUMMER WORK FOR 3 or 4 WEEKS (multiple dates available to
Salary up to £1940.40 dependant on length of programme
The purpose of this role is to assist a young person with additional
support needs through our summer youth & community programme. NCS (National
Citizen Service) is a government-backed initiative with a mission to equip
15-17 year olds with the confidence, skills and support they need to make a
real difference in their communities.
We strive for the NCS programme to be as inclusive as possible,
providing additional support and resources to improve accessibility for young
people with SEND, behavioural, emotional and/or physical needs.
Support Workers are ‘matched’ to a young person with additional needs
throughout their entire NCS journey, assisting and motivating them to
participate to their full potential and get the most out of the programme.
Depending on the Support Worker’s experience and skills, they will be providing
assistance for learning & engagement SEND (Special Education Needs and
Disabilities), mental health, physical disabilities, behavioural support and/or
- Provide dedicated support for
young people with complex additional needs participating in NCS,
overseeing their health, safety and wellbeing at all times and supporting
their engagement in the programme.
- Prior to NCS, attend additional meeting(s) as
required with the young person(s) and their parent/guardian to support
building an effective working relationship
- Complete and maintain the young person’s
additional support documentation as required, prior to and throughout NCS.
- Quickly build a positive rapport with the
young person, and support them throughout the programme (this could
include personal organisation, person hygiene & toileting,
administering medication and moving & handling of young people
depending on your skills and experience)
- Identify and find solutions to, barriers
preventing the young person from fully engaging with the programme.
- Help the young person integrate into a team of
other young people while continuing to work as part of a team with other
seasonal staff members including Wave Leader, Team Leader and Assistant
- Ensure activities are inclusive and
collaborate with other staff to achieve this
- Follow The Growth Company's safeguarding
policies and procedures, ensuring the safety and well-being of all young
- Experience of working with a range of young
people with multiple and complex additional support needs, including at
least 2 of the following: NEET, substance misuse, mental health, LAC,
criminal justice, physical disabilities, cognitive/learning disabilities,
hearing and/or visual impairments and behavioural needs.
- Experience of working in a team and/or
multiagency environment, collaborating with stakeholders to co-produce
tailored support plans and Reasonable Adjustments.
- Experience of working in educational, outdoor
and/or residential settings would be advantageous.
